Divide et Impera
The proposed approach consists of using Rulestream for managing the “system level” configuration parameters selecting all the necessary “sub-modules”, leaving to Product Configurator the resolution of the BOM of each “sub-module”. Clearly each sub-module must have its 150% BOM to be solved based on a set of inputs which can partly (or even entirely) calculated by Rulestream as refinement of the above mentioned “system level” parameters.
This “divide et impera” allows to narrow down the complexity of 150% BOM of the sub-modules, while leaving the system-level configuration free of the “nuts-and-bolts” details.
In addition, Rulestream can used after the resolution of a sub-module BOM, adding/replacing existing parts with newly created ones fitting customer requirements.
